Porcupine Electronics LR3

LR3 - Laser Rangefinder Interface Board

The LR3 is an interface board designed to add a USB interface to an off the shelf, hand held laser rangefinder.  The LR3 works with a Fluke* 411D Laser Distance Meter.  Together with the Fluke 411D, the LR3 provides ±3mm accuracy at distances up to 30 meters and sample rates exceeding 10 samples per second.

The LR3 implements a Human Interface Device (HID) class USB device.  Software applications in most operating systems can easily read data from HID class devices without the need for custom drivers.  This makes it simple to create software that interfaces to the LR3 from Windows or Linux.

More details on the LR3 including specs and sample applications with source code is avaiable here.

Breakout Board for FT232RL USB to Serial
sku: BOB-00718 RoHS Compliant
Description: Basic breakout board for FTDI's popular USB to UART IC. Now with internal oscillator and EEPROM, the FT232RL is an impressive IC!

VCCIO is now tied to 3.3V through a solder jumper. You have the option of clearing this jumper and tying the VCCIO pin to 5V or any other IO voltage you need. For more information on how to wire VCCIO for 5V, checkout this mini-tutorial on the SparkFun forum.

Board comes assembled with IC as shown.

Check out these really well done tutorials on bit-banging SPI with the FT232. Nice work Michael!
