STM32 Primer2

The STM32 Primer2 is the new release of the innovative, original STM32 Primer1, which has put the powerful, highly-integrated STM32 with ARM Cortex™-M3 core into the hands of more than 10,000 engineers and microcontroller enthousiasts worldwide.

The new Primer2, designed around STMicroelectronics newest STM32 variants, delivers more interface possibilities, more evaluation features and more power than its predecessor at a similarly affordable price.
More features, more power, more fun...
The Primer2 offers an innovative, ergonomic design similar to its predecessor's, with MEMS-based controls (navigate by tilting the tool left, right, backward or forward). In addition, based on the feedback of Primer users, we've packed Primer2 with an unprecedented range of new features to stimulate your creative ideas including:
  • STM32F103E (512 bytes Flash)
  • Li-Ion battery with smart loading control for improved current management, battery autonomy (more than 6 hours), charging time and battery lifespan
  • New interface possibilities:
    • 128x160 pixel touch screen TFT display
    • Codec-based audio record and playback with headset connector and integrated microphone
    • 4-direction joystick and push button
    • 4 additional push buttons based on touchscreen capability
  • New evaluation features:
    • Micro SD card connector
    • IrDA transceiver
    • 20-pin add-on connector for access to SPI, I2C, USART, CAN and analog/digital I/Os
All of this is in addition to the range of development features offered on both Primers:
  • Ergonomic design
  • MEMs accelerometer for capture of the 3D-position information (implemented in navigation controls on the Primer)
  • Mini USB for embedded applications that communicate with an external USB host
Add-on connector and modules for easy hardware extension
To facilitate expansion of the STM32 Primer2 hardware, Raisonance incorporated a 20-pin connector. This connector provides easy access to peripherals on the target STM32 including the ADC, SPI, USART, CAN, I2C, as well as some I/Os.

The connector is situated to accomodate a PCB inside its casing with maximum dimensions 45 x 45mm with a clearance of approximately 7.5mm for componants between PCB and the casing. The casing includes an opening of 2 x 46mm situated to allow the PCB of an Add-on module to extend outside of the casing.

An Add-on module with wrapping area is provided with the STM32 Primer2 Pro available from Raisonance. The end of this module that extends outside the casing can be used or can be broken off if desired, leaving a remaining PCB of 45 x 42mm that is entirely enclosed inside the Primer2.

For more information, refer to the detailed mechanical dimensions.

More possibilities, more samples and even more users...
Users benefit from a complete range of sample applications for STM32 from Raisonance and fellow microcontroller enthousiasts, including:
  • Maze – Game implementing the LCD and MEMS controls to navigate a maze while avoiding monsters
  • Breakout – A game where the player uses a paddle to bounce a ball against a wall of blocks, destroying blocks to win points
  • Test – Basic test of a range of Primer2 features (touch screen, audio record/playback, USB, MEMS, Micro SD card, IrDA)
  • Configuration - Check and configure Primer2. From the main menu launch the “Config” command to set the following:
    • CPU Freq- Choose the speed of your STM32-Primer2
    • Backlight- Adjust backlight intensity (Reducing backlight intensity extends operation when powered by the battery)
    • Time- Sets the time (RTC clock remains valid even if your STM32-Primer is shut off)
    • Test- Perform factory hardware tests of the STM32-Primer2.
You can add more applications to your Primer2. Create your own or download them from projects pages. List includes projects from the growing community of users, future contest entries and appliications for Add-on modules featuring new components.

Complete Raisonance Tool Environment...
As with its predecessor, the Primer2's rich range of features is complemented with a complete application development solution with:
  • In-circuit debugging/programming via dedicated USB connection to the host PC
  • Complete software toolset for compiling debugging and programming applications
    • Ride7 development software toolset with project manager, editor and high-level language debugging
    • GNU C compiler for ARM (no code size limitations) with seamless control from the Ride7 interface
    • CircleOS task scheduler for dynamic loading and management of new applications
    • C source code for all sample applications and libraries including
The numerous functions of the Circle-OS firmware will help you to design new applications that you could add dynamically to your STM32 Primer and share with other developers.
